Indian Solar Firms Seek Visas for Chinese Engineers to Meet Renewable Targets
Indian solar module manufacturers Tata Power Solar, ReNew Photovoltaic, and Avaada Electro are urging the government to expedite visa applications for Chinese engineers vital to their operations. They need these professionals to meet the nation's ambitious renewable energy targets. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and border tensions, visa delays could hinder project timelines.
Indian solar module manufacturers like Tata Power Solar, ReNew Photovoltaic, and Avaada Electro have approached the government to expedite visa applications for Chinese engineers and technicians, sources indicate. The firms are scaling operations to meet India's ambitious renewable energy targets.
Since January, these companies have sought government support for 'business visas' for 36 Chinese professionals crucial to their solar module manufacturing. Tata Power Solar requested clearance for 20 visa applications in 2024, while ReNew Power and Avaada Electro requested visas for nine and seven Chinese professionals respectively.
The applications have been moved to the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) and its parent ministry, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. SECI forwarded the applications this week, according to sources.
