Russia's Devastating Drone Strikes Leave Thousands Without Power in Ukraine

Russia launched drone attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, leaving tens of thousands without power and injuring at least 15 people. Ukrainian air defences intercepted most of the drones. The attacks have caused significant damage and forced Ukraine to import electricity from the European Union.

Russia launched overnight drone attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, targeting regions between Kyiv and the Russian border, according to Ukraine's national power grid operator.

The governor of Chernihiv reported 15 injuries and damage to infrastructure and a dormitory in Nizhyn. Power outages affected over 68,000 consumers in Zhytomyr and Kyiv, with 30,000 still without power by morning.

Ukrainian air defences intercepted 20 of 22 Russian drones, primarily in Kherson and Sumy regions. Ongoing attacks have led to blackouts and necessitated large-scale electricity imports from the EU.
