Delhi Basement Flooding Tragedy Spurs Political Outrage

The deaths of three students from basement flooding at a Delhi coaching institute have sparked political outcry, with BJP and Congress leaders condemning the city's administration for negligence and mismanagement.

BJP leader V Muraleedharan has criticized the Delhi administration following the tragic deaths of three students in a basement flood at a coaching institute, labeling it a sign of the city's 'pitiable state.' 'The AAP did not ensure basic amenities before granting permission for such institutions,' Muraleedharan told ANI on Sunday.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also weighed in, branding the incident as 'the height of negligence and mismanagement.' In a social media post, Gandhi described the event as 'heartbreaking,' calling for accountability and the rectification of illegal and dangerous constructions in student areas.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the AAP-led Delhi government of 'criminal negligence,' asserting that the incident amounted to 'murder.' He demanded that responsibility be addressed, questioning the value placed on Delhi citizens' lives. Delhi police have arrested the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching center, where the flooding occurred.

Police identified the victims as Shreya Yadav of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nivin Dalwin of Kerala. This incident follows the recent death of a UPSC aspirant due to electrocution on a waterlogged street in Delhi.
