Seven Arrested in Deadly Flood at Delhi Coaching Centre

Delhi police arrested seven individuals in connection to the deaths of three students due to basement flooding at a coaching centre. An SUV driver was identified through CCTV for negligence after crashing into the centre's gate. The MCD has since sealed 13 coaching centres for illegal operations.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident, Delhi police have arrested seven individuals, including an SUV driver, linked to the deaths of three students following basement flooding at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harshvardhan confirmed that the driver was identified via widely-shared video footage and subsequently apprehended. The video revealed the driver speeding past the coaching institute, damaging its gate, which allegedly led to accelerated water flow into the building.

CCTV footage was instrumental in tracking down the suspect. "Negligence on the driver's part has been established. Before crashing into the gate, a street vendor attempted to stop him," stated DCP Harshvardhan. Following the incident, the coaching centre's owner and coordinator were also arrested on charges including culpable homicide.

The unfortunate victims, Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalwin, tragically lost their lives due to the flooding. In response, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed 13 coaching centres in Karol Bagh for flouting building bye-laws. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has mandated strict actions against illegally operating coaching centres.
