Delhi BJP Intensifies Protest Over Student Deaths in Flooded Coaching Centre

The Delhi BJP ramped up protests demanding CM Kejriwal’s resignation after 3 students died due to flooding in a coaching centre’s basement. Water cannons were used on protestors outside AAP office. Grievances include lack of MCD response and accountability from officials.

The Delhi BJP on Monday escalated their protest following the tragic deaths of three students, after rainwater flooded the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar on Saturday. The Delhi Police deployed water cannons to disperse BJP workers and leaders protesting outside the AAP office, demanding government accountability.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva joined the demonstration, alongside numerous party leaders and activists. Women protestors showed bangles and banged utensils as they called for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation. 'The injustice and loss of student lives will only stop with Kejriwal's resignation,' emphasized one protestor.

Anu Arora, a BJP worker, denounced the incident as 'a very tragic event,' criticizing the AAP for negligence. 'The Mayor, an AAP member, failed to make necessary arrangements. These children died due to AAP's irresponsibility. Kejriwal made empty promises about providing free water and electricity, but instead Delhi is flooded. We demand his resignation,' she added. Protests by students in Karol Bagh continued today.

UPSC aspirant Sahil told ANI that no Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials had visited the protestors. 'We've been here for two days, but no MCD official has met us. We submitted our demands, including information about the deceased, hospitalized, FIR copies, actions to be taken, and compensation, but nothing has been addressed,' he said.

The incident occurred when rainwater inundated the basement of Rau's Study Circle on July 27, trapping students due to a blocked biometric access system. UPSC aspirant Manish Kumar told ANI the tragedy was preventable and urged alternatives to biometric systems for safety.

Another student, Punit Singh, expressed concerns over the lack of emergency evacuation measures in the buildings housing coaching institutes.
