Former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and Others Accused in Major GST Fraud Case

Hyderabad police's Central Crime Station (CCS) has registered an FIR against former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and four other individuals, including two officers from the Commercial Taxes Department, for alleged GST Act violations.

Deputy Commissioner A. Siva Rama Prasad and Additional Commissioner (State Taxes) S.V. Kasi Visweswara Rao are among those implicated. The complaint was lodged on July 26 by K. Ravi Kanuri, Joint Commissioner (CT) of the Central Computer Wing, Hyderabad.

A forensic report revealed unauthorized transfers of proprietary data from the Commercial Taxes Department to external parties. Preliminary investigations uncovered over Rs 400 crore in evasion across 11 cases, with a total fraud exceeding Rs 1,000 crore. The allegations include data manipulation, fraudulent case masking, and jurisdictional manipulations benefiting certain taxpayers.
