Landslides in Wayanad: Urgent Rescue Operations Underway

In the early hours of Tuesday, a devastating landslide struck the Meppadi area of Wayanad, claiming at least 80 lives. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, emphasizing the need for introspection on balancing human activity and nature. 'We will all stand together in this hour of crisis and brave this storm,' said Bose, who has been in touch with key officials for immediate rescue efforts.

Governor Bose has reached out to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, urging prompt assistance for those affected. 'In this critical time, the entire nation stands united to rescue the distressed,' Bose added, highlighting coordinated efforts with national and state agencies.

Union Minister of State George Kurian and Kerala Forest Minister Saseendran have arrived in Wayanad to lead relief operations. Additional ministers from Revenue, Public Works, and Scheduled Castes and Tribes Departments are en route. Kerala Minister MB Rajesh confirmed that rescue operations are being carried out on a 'war footing,' with 250 people already relocated to temporary shelters and airlifting ongoing for those stranded.
