Arunachal Pradesh Set to Finalize State Horticulture Policy by September

Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Gabriel Denwang Wangshu announced a new state horticulture policy is being drafted, aiming for completion by September. The policy will guide the state's horticulture initiatives, focusing on disease-free, high-quality planting materials and incentives for large cardamom farmers, among other goals.

In a significant announcement, Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Gabriel Denwang Wangshu revealed that a new state horticulture policy is currently being drafted and is slated for completion by September this year.

Wangshu, who also oversees the Horticulture, Dairy Development, and Fisheries portfolios, emphasized that the policy is one of 24 major initiatives introduced by the Pema Khandu government since it returned to power. He highlighted the policy’s objectives, including creating a roadmap for self-reliance in producing disease-free and high-quality planting materials through certified nurseries and plant tissue culture.

The new comprehensive policy is expected to guide governmental decisions, plans, and programs for achieving desired results. Additionally, the horticulture department is drafting an action plan to incentivize large cardamom farmers to boost production. Arunachal Pradesh is anticipated to soon surpass Sikkim as the top large cardamom producer in the country. The state has made strides in establishing research centers and nurseries, with significant support from various national agricultural bodies.
