Dakshin Kannada Schools Closed Amid Heavy Rain Alert

Amid a heavy rainfall warning, Dakshin Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on August 1. Residents are advised to stay indoors and follow safety measures.

The district administration of Dakshin Kannada, Karnataka, has announced a holiday for all anganwadis, schools, and pre-university colleges (up to 12th grade) on August 1 due to an Orange Alert for heavy rain, declared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Deputy Commissioner, Mullai Muhilan, also advised fishermen to avoid going out to sea and urged residents to steer clear of low-lying areas, emphasizing the importance of safety precautions. Muhilan stated that the administration is on high alert, with emergency services ready to respond to any situations that may arise due to the rainfall.

According to IMD's Director in Bengaluru, CS Patil, an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for August 1 and 2, with widespread rainfall expected over the next five days in Coastal Karnataka. The district administration had already declared a holiday on July 31 following a red alert for rain.
