Stock markets remained on a record-smashing course for the fifth straight day on Thursday, fueled by buying in index heavyweights HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries. Sensex and Nifty settled at new all-time highs.

The BSE Sensex climbed 126.21 points, or 0.15 percent, to a lifetime high of 81,867.55. At its peak during the intra-day session, the index surged 388.15 points, or 0.47 percent, to reach 82,129.49.

The NSE Nifty added 59.75 points, or 0.24 percent, concluding at 25,010.90, surpassing the 25,000 mark intraday for the first time with a rise of 127.15 points, or 0.50 percent, to 25,078.30. Major Sensex gainers included Power Grid, NTPC, HDFC Bank, Nestle India, Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki India, and Reliance Industries.

Conversely, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, State Bank of India, Larsen & Toubro, and Tata Motors lagged. Brent crude prices edged up 0.98 percent to USD 81.63 per barrel in futures trade.

Asian markets concluded mixed, with Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong in negative territory, while Seoul ended positively. European markets showed declines in mid-session Thursday, contrasted by US stocks closing in green on Wednesday. Foreign institutional investors were net sellers, offloading shares worth Rs 3,462.36 crore on Wednesday. The BSE Sensex had previously hit an all-time closing high of 81,741.34 with a 285.94-point gain, while the NSE Nifty surged 93.85 points to an all-time high of 24,951.15.
