China's Vice Premier Urges Action for Robust Autumn Grain Harvest Amid Floods
China's Vice Premier Liu Guozhong has called for local authorities to minimize agricultural losses and ensure a strong autumn grain harvest following severe rains and floods in Henan, China's major wheat-growing province. Efforts include restoring damaged crops, promoting grain yields, and securing national food security.
China's Vice Premier Liu Guozhong has urged local authorities to take decisive actions to minimize agricultural losses and ensure a bountiful autumn grain harvest after Henan, the country's largest wheat-growing province, was hit by torrential rains and floods.
During his visit to Henan, the vice premier emphasized the importance of restoring affected crops and guiding farmers in replanting damaged land. He stressed the need for robust disaster prevention measures to protect the agriculture sector and secure a successful harvest.
Henan, producing about one-third of China's wheat, is crucial for national food security. While the summer wheat harvest is nearly complete, hot temperatures and heavy rainfall have jeopardized the quality of stored wheat, leading some farmers to sell their stock. In response, Sinograin has announced plans to increase domestic wheat storage to support farmers.
