Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims Embark from Srinagar Amid Increased Security

Pilgrims set out from Srinagar for the Amarnath Yatra with heightened security amidst rising terror threats. The journey, organized by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, will continue until August 19. Authorities emphasize safety and coordination as top priorities for this sacred annual pilgrimage.

A new group of pilgrims commenced their Amarnath Yatra from the Srinagar base camp towards the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps on Saturday.

One pilgrim shared, 'Safety comes first, so coming to camp is better; you get all facilities for free, and the washrooms are clean and hygienic. We plan to stay here on our return too.'

'I feel fortunate to be part of this yatra; few people get this chance. Despite some difficulties, the darshan of Bhole Baba (Lord Shiva) makes it worthwhile,' she continued. 'I wish for people to be happy, and for wars and conflicts to reduce.'

The Yatra, organized by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, follows two routes: one through Pahalgam and the other through Baltal in Ganderbal district. The pilgrimage began on June 29 and will conclude on August 19.

This year’s yatra occurs amidst rising terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. On July 24, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, VK Birdi, held a security review meeting at Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam. He instructed security agencies to coordinate closely to ensure the pilgrimage’s safety.

The meeting also discussed strategies to counter terrorism and maintain order. All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to the safety and security of the pilgrims undertaking the arduous journey to the holy cave in the South Kashmir Himalayas.
