Devastation in Himachal Pradesh: Cloud Bursts Trigger Flash Floods, Leave 47 Missing

Himachal Pradesh is grappling with widespread destruction following severe cloud bursts and flash floods. The state has seen 191 roads, including three National Highways, closed due to landslides and heavy rain, while 294 electricity supply schemes and nearly 120 water supply schemes have been disrupted.

A staggering 47 people are reported missing, with 36 unaccounted for in the Samej area of the Rampur Region in Shimla district. Rescue and search operations, involving over 400 personnel from various forces including NDRF, SDRF, Police, and Army, are ongoing. To date, six individuals have died, 11 have been safely evacuated, and no one remains stranded. In total, 60 houses were completely destroyed, with significant damage to infrastructure including schools, bridges, and water supply schemes.

Special Secretary for Disaster Management, DC Rana, highlighted that the tragedy mainly impacted the Rampur, Kullu, and Mandi districts. Despite the significant challenges, recovery and restoration efforts are in full swing. The state's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has urged tourists to exercise caution and avoid dangerous areas. The restoration of essential services remains a priority as authorities work to stabilize the affected regions.
