TMC Leaders Extend Support to Wayanad Disaster Victims

TMC leaders Sushmita Dev and Saket Gokhale on Saturday met with disaster-affected communities in Wayanad, offering them support during their time of crisis. 'Standing by our people in their time of crisis is our foremost duty,' wrote All India Trinamool Congress on a social media platform.

Governor Arif Mohammed Khan stated on Saturday that the focus remains on rescue and relief as not all bodies have been recovered. 'This is an hour of crisis, an hour of tragedy. The coordination between central and state governments has been exemplary,' said Khan. He added that 10,000 people are living in relief camps and will need rehabilitation after the emergency subsides. The Prime Minister has instructed all central agencies, particularly the defense forces, to focus on disaster response.

In a showcase of bravery, the Indian Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force successfully rescued three stranded personnel at Soochipara Waterfalls in Wayanad. The coordinated land and air operation was executed promptly. As of Friday, the death toll from July 30 landslides stands at 308, with 215 bodies and 143 body parts recovered. Health Minister Veena George provided these updates, noting that 148 bodies have been identified so far.
