The Haryana Cabinet, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has approved significant changes to the 'Mukhya Mantri Shehri Awas Yojana' (MMSAY) policy. These amendments are designed to address the housing needs of urban families earning an annual income of up to Rs 1.80 lakh, as verified by the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP).
Under the new policy guidelines, beneficiaries allotted 1 Marla (30 sq. yards) plots will enjoy extended payment deadlines. The time frame for paying the initial allotment fee of Rs 10,000 has been doubled to two months, and the remaining amount of Rs 80,000 can now be paid in monthly installments over three years after the Letter of Intent is issued.
The revised policy also introduces provisions for refunds and the transfer of allotments in case of a beneficiary's death. Beneficiaries can receive a refund of the principal amount without penalties before possession. Allotments can be transferred to legal heirs upon submission of necessary certificates. The amendments aim to provide financial flexibility and security to scheme beneficiaries, enhancing the government's efforts to improve living conditions for economically weaker sections.
