Milk Prices Soar: Toned Milk Rate Climbs to Rs 51.83/litre

The price of toned milk has surged to Rs 51.83 per litre in the last fiscal year, from Rs 39 per litre in 2018-19. Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated that milk prices are determined by dairies based on market forces. Various government schemes are aiding over 9 crore dairy farmers.

The average price of toned milk has soared to Rs 51.83 per litre in the last fiscal year, jumping from Rs 39 per litre in 2018-19, the government revealed on Tuesday.

Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, clarified in a written reply to Lok Sabha that the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) does not regulate the procurement and sale prices of milk and milk products in the country. Instead, prices are determined by cooperative and private dairies based on production costs and market dynamics. The department, however, monitors these prices regularly.

He highlighted that over the years, the average sale price for toned milk has seen notable increases. In response to a separate query, Singh mentioned several schemes like the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) and Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) aimed at supporting dairy infrastructure and profitability. These initiatives benefit a diverse range of stakeholders, enhancing milk production and stabilizing prices for over 9 crore dairy farmers.
