Amid the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya has announced that 20 Bangladeshi students studying at Gujarat University, sponsored by the Government of India, are safe. Pansheriya confirmed that both the university and the Government of Gujarat are ensuring the students' security.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel informed the Education Department about the presence of these students at Gujarat University. Following unrest in Bangladesh, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a directive, prompting the Vice Chancellor to hold a meeting with the students to ensure their safety. All 20 students, including 8 girls and 12 boys, are confirmed to be secure.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, addressing the Lok Sabha, stated that there are approximately 19,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, including 9,000 students, most of whom returned in July. He also mentioned that Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in India after an urgent request amid the unrest. Jaishankar emphasized that India is closely monitoring the situation, particularly concerning the security of minorities in Bangladesh, highlighting the close ties between the two nations.
