Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a significant Handicraft Exhibition organized by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. Patel emphasized that handloom is a symbol of India's unique rural art and culture and an integral part of the country's rural economy, urging people to support local artisans.
The CM also inaugurated three renovated departments at NIFT: Fashion Design, Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories, and Master of Design. The 10th National Handloom Day celebration saw the presence of various dignitaries, including Industry Minister Balvantsinh Rajput, MLA Ritaben Patel, and Gandhinagar Mayor Meera Patel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on National Handloom Day via social media platform X, expressing pride in India's rich handloom heritage. National Handloom Day, first celebrated on August 7, 2015, aims to honor handloom weavers and raise awareness about the sector's socio-economic contributions, commemorating the Swadeshi Movement launched in 1905.
