Solar Power Plant in Khargone Nears Completion

A 60-megawatt solar power plant in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, is expected to be completed by year-end. The project, costing Rs 308 crore, was partially funded via green bonds issued by the Indore Municipal Corporation. The plant aims to significantly reduce the city's electricity expenses.

The construction of a 60-megawatt solar power plant in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, is anticipated to be finished by the end of the year, as reported by an Indore Municipal Corporation official on Thursday.

The plant, situated on a 220-acre site in Jalud village, had its foundation stone laid via video conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25 last year.

Out of the estimated Rs 308 crore project cost, the Indore civic body raised Rs 244 crore through green bonds issued in February last year, according to the official.

IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma stated, "Work on the plant has started, and we are aiming to complete it by the end of this year."

He explained that the IMC pays around Rs 25 crore monthly for electricity to transport Narmada river water 80 kilometers from Jalud to Indore and distribute it to households. The new solar plant's electricity will slash IMC's bill by approximately Rs 5 crore each month.

Indore, known as the cleanest city in India, heavily relies on the Narmada river for its water supply. The city's groundwater levels are also continually depleting, according to officials.
