BJD Strategizes Future Amid Political Challenges at Post-Poll Meeting

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) conducted its first coordination committee meeting at Shanka Bhavan in Bhubaneswar after facing a significant electoral defeat. Key state-level issues and the restructuring of the party were central to the discussions. BJD Vice President and Chairman of the Coordination Committee, Debi Prasad Mishra, emphasized the formation of a new committee by BJD President Naveen Patnaik and discussed strategies to move the party forward.

Notably, former Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Mahanta switched her allegiance from BJD to BJP, and BJP MLA Ashok Mohanty indicated that more BJD members are expected to join BJP soon. This ongoing shift highlights the evolving political landscape.

The shift came a day after a disheartening performance in the 18th Lok Sabha elections where BJD failed to secure any seats, while BJP and Congress gained significant ground. The state assembly elections also saw BJD losing its stronghold, capturing 51 out of 147 seats, compared to BJP's 78. These changes mark the end of Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year tenure as Chief Minister in Odisha.
