Centre Revokes Rs 66 Crore Border Road Project Due to Land Issues, Allocates Rs 669.75 Crore for NIT Campus

The Centre has withdrawn Rs 66 crore for a border road between Sangau and Saisihchhuah in Mizoram due to land allocation issues. Additionally, Rs 669.75 crore has been sanctioned for a National Institute of Technology campus at Lengpui, near Aizawl, pending forest clearance.

The Centre has withdrawn Rs 66 crore initially sanctioned for constructing a border road between Sangau and Saisihchhuah, which aimed to connect Lawngtlai district in south Mizoram with Myanmar's Chin state, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar announced on Friday.

In a written statement to Mizoram's Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena in Parliament, Majumdar explained that the project, approved in February 2021, was to be executed by the Border Roads Organisation. However, the funds were withdrawn as the state failed to provide the required land free of cost by June this year.

The Minister also informed that the Sangau-Saisihchhuah road project will now be included in the Thingsai to Pangkhua-Sangau road project under General Staff funding. In addition, Rs 669.75 crore has been sanctioned for constructing a National Institute of Technology campus at Lengpui, near Aizawl, subject to forest clearance.
