Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar Takes Command of Spear Corps

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar has taken charge as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the elite Spear Corps, succeeding Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi, who now serves as Commandant of the Army War College in Mhow, according to a Ministry of Defence press release. Lt Gen Pendharkar, commissioned into the ASSAM Regiment in June 1990, is an alumnus of both the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. His advanced military education includes the Higher Command Course at the Army War College, Mhow, and the National Defence College (NDC) Course in New Delhi.

With a career extending over three decades, Lt Gen Pendharkar has held diverse command and staff roles across various terrains and operational theaters in India and abroad. His command assignments have included leading an infantry battalion, brigade, and divisional-level formations along the Line of Control and in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also held pivotal staff appointments, including a role in the Military Operations Directorate at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army). Prior to his current role, he served as the Director-General of the Territorial Army.

In recognition of his distinguished service, Lt Gen Pendharkar has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Chief of the Army Staff Commendation, and the GOC-in-C Central Command Commendation. These accolades highlight his significant professional contributions in both command and staff positions. (ANI)
