In a tragic turn of events, at least five devotees lost their lives and one person was critically injured when a speeding truck crashed into a crowd outside the Mahamaya temple in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Monday morning.

The horrific incident took place in the Kachugaon area during the Bol Bom yatra, an event held in the auspicious month of Sawan, when devotees thronged the temple to perform Jal Abhishekam.

Pushpraj Singh, the Superintendent of Police for Kokrajhar district, confirmed to ANI over the phone that five people had died due to the accident. 'The injured person was immediately rushed to the hospital,' he added. The truck driver has been apprehended, and further details are awaited.
