IIT Madras Tops NIRF Rankings for the Sixth Consecutive Year
IIT Madras secures the top spot in the NIRF rankings 2024 for the sixth consecutive year. The ranking, released by the National Board of Accreditation and NIRF, also places IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay in the top three overall.

IIT Madras has once again been ranked as the best higher educational institution in India, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay in the overall category, according to the rankings conducted by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
The announcement, made on Monday by the Ministry of Education at an event held at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, was presided over by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
IIT Madras claimed the top position in the NIRF rankings 2024 for the sixth time. Additionally, it has been ranked as the best engineering college for nine consecutive years. In the management category, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta secured positions among the top five institutions.
Moreover, the Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) was acknowledged as the best university in the country, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi) and Jamia Millia Islamia.
Meanwhile, Delhi University's Hindu College was named the best college in the country, with Miranda House College and St. Stephen's College following closely behind. The Chennai-based IIT retained its No. 1 position in both the 'overall' and 'engineering' categories.
This year, the NIRF rankings were released across 13 different categories, including universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), launched on September 29, 2015, by Honourable Minister for Education, outlines a comprehensive methodology to rank institutions across the nation. The 2024 rankings saw the participation of 10,885 higher education institutions.
