FORDA Halts Elective Services Nationwide Over Resident Doctor's Tragic Death

In response to the rape and murder of a resident doctor, FORDA announces a nationwide halt of elective services starting August 12, 2024. In the wake of the tragic rape and murder of a second-year resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College, the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) has declared a nationwide halt to elective services in hospitals starting Monday, August 12, 2024. The incident, which took place on August 9, has led to widespread outrage and significant protests.

In a letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, FORDA condemned the horrific circumstances surrounding the doctor's death, describing it as an unprecedented tragedy in the resident doctor community. They asserted that the event is not just an attack on their profession but a fundamental assault on humanity itself.

FORDA's letter also outlined specific demands, including the immediate resignations of key authorities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, such as the Principal, MSVP, Dean, and Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. They also called for action against the Assistant Commissioner of Police at the RG Kar MC&H police outpost for failing to protect the doctor.

Furthermore, FORDA demanded assurances that no police brutality or manhandling of protesting doctors would occur, insisting their right to peaceful protest be respected. The association also sought justice for the deceased doctor and appropriate compensation for her family. They stressed the urgency of these actions and expressed readiness to assist in achieving these goals, hoping for swift government response to secure the safety and security of all healthcare professionals.
