IAEA Investigates Zaporizhzhia Cooling Tower Fire
The IAEA inspected the damaged cooling tower at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant in Ukraine, finding no immediate evidence of tire or drone remains. The plant is controlled by Russia. The agency stated that the primary source of the fire likely did not originate at the cooling tower’s base.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced late Monday that its representatives have inspected the damaged cooling tower at Russia-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant in Ukraine. The inspection revealed no immediate evidence of tire or drone remains.
According to the IAEA, the likelihood of the primary source of the fire beginning at the base of the cooling tower is low. This was stated in an official update on the agency's website.
However, the team has not arrived at definitive conclusions regarding the cause of the fire based on their current findings and observations, as the agency noted in its statement.
