The statement highlighted the lack of 'substantive' advances during five days of government-mediated talks. The strike is set to begin at 8 a.m. (1200 GMT) on Tuesday. 'We're convinced we made every responsible effort to reach an agreement, but that wasn't possible,' the statement noted, urging all members to follow strike instructions.

Escondida, the world's largest copper mine, has seen its workers demanding a 1% share of dividends to be distributed equally. The mine is largely owned by BHP, one of the largest mining companies globally, in partnership with Rio Tinto and JECO Corp. BHP has yet to respond to requests for comment.
