Indian Institute of Technology Madras has once again secured the top spot in the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF), marking its sixth consecutive year at No.1 in the 'Overall' category and ninth in the 'Engineering' category. Director Kamakoti credited this milestone to the cohesive efforts of students, staff, alumni, and government support.
"It's a happy day for us," said Kamakoti. "The reason for this achievement is our students, staff, alumni, state and central government. We have worked cohesively to get this achievement." He emphasized the significance of NIRF as an essential ranking mechanism for the country and highlighted several initiatives, including data science programs and various new courses and departments introduced in the past two years.
Kamakoti noted that maintaining the top position is not without its challenges, citing intense competition. "We will participate in the nation's needs in every stream and whatever the nation requires academically," he added. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the NIRF results on August 12, with IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay following IIT Madras in the second and third spots, respectively.
In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta were ranked among the top five. This year's rankings introduced three new categories, bringing the total to 16, evaluating institutions on parameters such as teaching, research, graduation outcomes, outreach, and inclusivity.
