Resident Doctors Strike Over Brutal Murder Continues Amid National Protests

BMC's resident doctors continue their strike, demanding written commitments after a colleague's tragic rape and murder at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Nationwide protests have erupted, with demands for strict action against the culprit and better protection for healthcare professionals.

The resident doctors at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) announced their decision to continue the ongoing strike until all demands made by the association are met and documented. This announcement follows the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor during her shift at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

A statement from BMC MARD said, "We office bearers of BMC MARD convened a meeting and have decided that the ongoing strike will continue until all demands are met and provided in writing. The decision to persist with the strike is firm, and no actions will be taken to end it until our demands are addressed satisfactorily." The tragic incident, which occurred on August 9, has sparked widespread outrage and led to protests across the medical community.

On Tuesday, doctors from Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMC), South Bihar's largest government hospital, protested the incident. They sat on strike in front of the hospital's superintendent, holding placards and demanding justice. Similar protests were staged by resident doctors of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), where Dr. Himanshu of the psychiatric department highlighted three primary demands, including immediate punishment for the culprit and a central act for resident doctors' protection.

In Assam, junior doctors from Guwahati Medical College & Hospital held a candle march to show solidarity with the victim of the RG Kar Medical College incident, echoing the national call for justice and safety for healthcare professionals.
