Delhi University Allocates 97,000 Seats for Undergraduate Admissions Amid New Rules
Delhi University announced its first-round allocations for undergraduate programs, offering seats to over 97,000 candidates, exceeding its total seat capacity. This measure aims to ensure optimal seat occupancy for the academic session starting August 29.

Delhi University announced on Friday that over 97,000 candidates have been offered seats in its various undergraduate programs, surpassing the total seat capacity of around 71,600. The university aims to ensure optimal seat occupancy as the academic session kicks off on August 29.
Seats were allocated based on the unique Common Rank. A total of 97,387 allocations were made in the First Round, excluding Performance-based programs and Supernumerary quotas. Candidates have until August 18 to accept their seats and must submit their fees by August 21.
The university handled admissions for 71,600 seats across 69 colleges, with a total of 1,72,18,187 preferences submitted by 1,85,543 applicants. To tackle tie-breaking scenarios, the university introduced revised rules prioritizing higher aggregate marks and date of birth. Additionally, Delhi University has decided to admit 20 per cent extra students in certain categories to maximize seat occupancy.
