Resident doctors from Northern Railway Central Hospital gathered outside Nirman Bhawan in Delhi on Monday, protesting the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Chanting slogans and displaying banners, they called for accountability and justice.
Doctors from Maulana Azad Medical College joined the protest, while a women's group in Siliguri organized a torchlight rally named 'Loud and Clear' to condemn the incident. The 'Mashal Juloos' protest emphasized the urgent need for women's safety and justice.
In Mumbai, doctors protested at Azad Maidan, urging the government to enforce safety audits in all organizations. 'What is the point of our independence if we are not safe?' said Dr. Prerna Gomes from Jaslok Hospital. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, is set to hear the case on August 20, following nationwide outrage from the medical community.
