Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced on Monday that he plans to block Nippon Steel's proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel and move to overturn pollution regulations enacted by the Biden administration. Trump's remarks, prepared for delivery in York, Pennsylvania, are a reiteration of his stance from February on halting the deal.

Following the news of Trump's statement, shares in U.S. Steel dropped 3.5%. President Joe Biden has previously emphasized the importance of U.S. Steel remaining domestically owned. In April, the Environmental Protection Agency finalized rules aimed at cutting over 1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants by 2047.

Trump criticized these regulations as part of an 'anti-American energy crusade' and vowed to open additional power plants. He also opposed the Biden administration's push for electric vehicles and promised rapid approvals for new energy infrastructure, including nuclear power.

Moreover, Trump pledged to revoke China's most favored nation trade status and seek legislation for reciprocal tariffs. He stated he would use the Defense Production Act to boost the production capacity of essential goods.
