RML Hospital Doctors End Strike Over Kolkata Trainee Rape-Murder

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has called off their strike following government acceptance of their demands. This comes after a gruesome incident at RG Kar Medical College, leading to nationwide protests and a Supreme Court-ordered investigation and security review.

On Tuesday, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital called off its strike, which was in protest of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The strike ended following the government's acceptance of all critical demands.

The RDA's official statement highlighted the deplorable conditions in which resident doctors work, amplified by the incident at RG Kar Medical College. The statement noted that the Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the case, transferring it to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Ministry of Health pledged to bolster security measures across medical institutions, with a 45-day timeline for implementation. The RDA assured continued support for RG Kar residents while resuming services at RML Hospital. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court formed a 10-member task force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring a safe working environment for medical professionals.
