Outrage Intensifies in Kolkata Over Trainee Doctor's Rape and Murder

Investigations into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata continue as the accused's close associate is spotted at the CBI office. The victim's mother-in-law alleges more people may be involved. The Supreme Court is set to hear the case, and widespread protests demand justice.

Amid ongoing investigations and protests following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, Sanjoy Roy's close associate was seen sprinting into the CBI Special Crime Branch office on Monday.

Earlier, Durga Devi, Roy's mother-in-law, claimed more individuals might be involved, asserting that Roy could not have committed the crime alone.

Recounting her daughter's troubled relationship with Roy, Durga Devi described it as tense and reported prior instances of abuse.

"He thrashed her, causing a miscarriage," Durga Devi recalled. "Sanjoy was not good. Hang him or do whatever you want. He can't do it alone."

The rape and murder have sparked widespread outrage and protests across various cities, with calls for justice and severe punishment for the accused.

The Supreme Court has taken suo-motu cognizance, with a hearing scheduled for August 20, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The CBI has permission to conduct a polygraph test on the arrested suspect.

On August 18, the CBI team conducted 3D laser mapping at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate allegations of financial irregularities at the hospital from January 2021 to date.
