Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday assured Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi of Central assistance as heavy rains inundated various low-lying areas in the state over the past two days. Shah reached out to both officials through a telephone conversation, recognizing the urgency of the situation.
Shah expressed his concern and emphasized that the central government would provide all necessary support to address the crisis. His prompt response aimed to ensure timely aid for the affected regions. According to an official source, Shah conveyed that any required assistance from the central government would be provided due to the flood-like conditions caused by the rainfall.
The heavy rains have displaced hundreds of residents to safer locations, with Navsari experiencing severe flooding. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'red alert' for the district on Monday. In response, Gujarat Chief Minister instructed officials to evacuate people from low-lying areas. The chief minister's office highlighted that Valsad, Tapi, Navsari, Surat, Narmada, and Panchmahal districts in South Gujarat have been the most impacted by the torrential downpour. (ANI)
