In her valedictory address at the National Conference of the District Judiciary marking 75 years of the Supreme Court of India, President Droupadi Murmu stressed the urgent need for accelerated reforms in judicial administration, infrastructure, training, and manpower. Despite recent advancements, she highlighted that significant progress is still needed across these areas.
President Murmu noted a positive trend with an increase in women in selection committees, leading to a 50% rise in women participants. She also pointed out the persistent challenges facing the judiciary, including issues related to evidence and witnesses that require a concerted effort from all stakeholders, including the judiciary, government, and police.
The President touched on the plight of women victims who often face societal neglect and fear. She emphasized that the judicial system must be more supportive and protective of these women. The conference, attended by over 800 participants from various states, also featured discussions on case management to reduce pendency and ensure timely justice.
