In the wake of molestation allegations involving a nurse in Birbhum district, West Bengal, Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) Dr. Himadri Kumar Ari termed the incident unfortunate and assured that measures are underway to bolster police presence at the hospital. 'This is an unfortunate incident, such events should never happen,' Dr. Ari remarked. He confirmed that the police have detained the culprit and efforts are in motion to enhance night security and CCTV surveillance. 'We had a meeting and all condemned the incident. We are working on increasing police numbers and improving the overall security system,' he added.
Reacting sharply, the opposition BJP lambasted the Mamata Banerjee-led government, alleging administrative and police failures. 'The administration has collapsed and the police system is in shambles. Mamata Banerjee is to blame and should resign,' stated West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar. The controversy comes after a minor girl was also sexually abused in North 24 Parganas, and the death of a trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College added further fuel to the fire.
The molestation incident has led to widespread protests by doctors across various states, demanding justice and stricter security laws for medical staff. In a recent development, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in connection with the case. (ANI)
