Karnataka DCM Announces Online Building Plan Approval for BBMP Areas

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar introduced an online building plan approval process for sites up to 4000 square feet in BBMP limits. Additionally, a new app for reporting potholes and a phased approach to constructing roads near Raja Kaluves were discussed during the announcement.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday unveiled an online building plan approval process targeted at sites up to 4000 square feet within BBMP limits. Announcing the 'Nambike Nakshe' scheme at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said the system enables owners to gain provisional approval from authorized architects or engineers before submitting for BBMP's final consent.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that most sites developed by BDA or Karnataka Housing Board are capped at 50x80 feet. With the new scheme, owners can begin construction after obtaining a provisional certificate, with BBMP engineers inspecting the site later. This pilot program, previously tested in two BBMP zones, is now expanded citywide, mitigating the need for multiple approval stages.

Shivakumar also noted the identification of 2,795 potholes in Bengaluru, with a 15-day deadline for repairs. An app has been launched to streamline pothole reporting and a Rs 660 crore fund allocated for main thoroughfare repairs. Additionally, he discussed a policy prohibiting construction within 50 meters of Raja Kaluves, with plans for 300 km of new roads, compensated by TDR, expected to alleviate congestion without supporting bus traffic.

The Deputy CM commended BBMP officials for stopping flooding in various areas and announced his intent to conduct city inspections on a bike to better understand road conditions.
