Telangana Floods Cause Rs 5438 Crore Damage: Government Report

The Telangana Government's assessment report reveals that recent rains and floods caused damages worth Rs 5438 crore. Significant losses were incurred by the Roads and Building Department, Energy Department, and agriculture, among others. The Telangana Government has released a comprehensive assessment report detailing the extensive damage caused by recent heavy rains and floods across the state. According to initial estimates, the total financial loss stands at Rs 5438 crore, as disclosed by the Telangana Chief Minister's Office on Monday.

The Roads and Building Department faced the highest losses at Rs 2,362 crore. The Energy Department reported damages to electrical installations worth Rs 175 crore. Damage to crops across 415,000 acres resulted in a loss of Rs 415 crore, while irrigation repairs for minor tanks amounted to Rs 629 crore. Other affected sectors include Panchayati Raj & Rural Development (Rs 170 crore), Medical and Health Department (Rs 12 crore), Animal Husbandry Department (Rs 25 crore), and the Municipal Administration (Rs 1150 crore). Public property damages were estimated at Rs 500 crore.

The state organized 110 relief camps, relocating over 4000 citizens to safety. In Khammam's Prakash Nagar, the Munneru River's water levels have risen significantly due to uninterrupted rains. Congress MP from Khammam, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, reported damage to houses while emphasizing the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

Khammam District Collector Muzammil Khan described the floods as unprecedented in the last 30 years, citing 200mm rainfall as the cause. He commended the efforts of officials, public representatives, and others, stating that many lives were saved due to their rapid response over the past two days.
