In a sweeping crackdown under Operation Kavach-5, Delhi Police raided 325 locations across 15 districts, arresting 74 narcotics offenders between August 31 and September 1. This operation is part of a rigorous strategy aimed at uprooting drug trafficking networks throughout the city.
According to Delhi Police, the raids resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs, including 108.93 grammes of heroin, 66.28 kg of ganja, 1100 grammes of Charas, and 16 grammes of MDMA. In addition, 54 cases under the Delhi Excise Act were registered, leading to the arrest of 54 individuals and the confiscation of illicit liquor and a Scooty.
Since the beginning of this year, Delhi Police have arrested 961 narco-offenders and seized large amounts of various drugs. Operation Kavach, launched in May 2023, aims to dismantle both street-level dealers and high-level traffickers using a multi-tiered approach. The joint efforts have unsettled drug peddlers, driving many to store contraband outside Delhi.
Police officials underline that the zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, championed by the Union Home Minister, is an essential step to protect the youth. They urge parents, teachers, and social reformers to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction to curb demand.
