On Wednesday, students from Sarojini Naidu Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Bhopal vandalized school property and held protests against the school’s discipline in-charge, alleging harsh treatment.

The students accused Varsha Jha, the discipline in-charge, of imposing severe punishments for minor infractions, including making late students stand in the scorching heat, sometimes causing them to faint. “If a student gets late even by a minute, Varsha Jha ma'am punishes them harshly,” said one student.

School Principal Malini Verma stated no teacher gave such punishments and clarified that Varsha Jha, a retired military captain, was specially appointed for discipline. ACP Habibganj, Mayur Khandelwal, reported law and order issues due to the protests but assured that they were being managed.

Ultimately, the students’ demand to remove Jha was met, confirmed by District Education Officer Narendra Kumar, who urged students to return to their classes.
