On Saturday, markets across Tamil Nadu saw a surge in demand for Ganesh idols and puja materials as people flocked to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. The bustling scene in Kanchipuram was particularly vibrant.
Artisans and sellers reported a high demand for their idols, sourced from numerous regions within the state. The market showcased a plethora of designs, colors, and sizes, reflecting the artisans' creativity. Idols painted in green or blue, and depictions of Lord Ganesha sitting on a cow or lion, highlighted the craftsmanship.
Alongside the festive activities, visuals showed people purchasing idols and pooja items. The demand for banana leaves soared, leading to a significant price hike. This was due to both Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and Subha Muhurtham, the auspicious day for weddings and ceremonies.
The significant rise in banana leaf prices saw bundles that previously sold for Rs 1,000 now going for Rs 3,500 to Rs 6,300. Traders forecast that prices will remain high until mid-September.
This year, Ganesh Chaturthi begins on September 7, marking the start of a ten-day festival. Known as 'Vinayak Chaturthi,' it concludes on 'Anantha Chaturdashi' and celebrates Lord Ganesha as the deity of wisdom, new beginnings, and obstacle removal.
Meanwhile, Mumbai unveiled the first look of its renowned Lalbaugcha Raja idol, drawing lakhs of devotees. Nationwide, the festival sees families bringing idols home, fasting, preparing delicacies, and visiting pandals for prayers and blessings. (ANI)
