Indefinite Public Emergency in Manipur Amid Escalating Kuki Aggression

Following deadly attacks by Kuki militants in Bishnupur, COCOMI declared an indefinite public emergency in Manipur. Increased aggression, including long-range rocket and drone bombings, has left the state in a precarious situation. Residents are urged to stay indoors for safety.

After a series of deadly attacks by Kuki militants in Bishnupur district, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has declared an indefinite public emergency, citing escalating aggression. The recent attacks left one person dead and six others injured, prompting the dire measures.

Khuraijam Athouba, COCOMI’s spokesperson, stated that Kuki militants deployed long-range rockets in two Bishnupur locations, with evidence of the rocket shell found by a Mobile Forensic Unit. These assaults are among the most severe by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups, specifically targeting the residence of Manipur's first Chief Minister, Mairembam Koireng Singh.

In response to the rising insecurity, Athouba urged residents to seek safety indoors. He criticized central forces for their vulnerability against the militants' long-range attacks. The indefinite public emergency restricts civilian movement, except for essential services, until the situation normalizes.

Earlier reports from Manipur Police confirmed the use of long-range rockets by Kuki militants, killing a 78-year-old man and injuring six others.
