Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Urges Immediate Action to Release 14 Fishermen from Sri Lankan Custody
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, urging swift diplomatic efforts to release 14 Indian fishermen and three mechanised fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka. Stalin highlighted the increasing frequency of such incidents and the harsh penalties being imposed on the fishermen.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called on External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar to ensure the immediate release of 14 Indian fishermen and three mechanised fishing boats detained by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In a letter dated September 7, Stalin highlighted that the 14 fishermen from Pudukkottai District were apprehended along with their boats, bearing Registration Nos. IND-TN-08-MM-198, IND-TN-08-MM-28, and IND-TN-08-MM52.
Stalin also pointed out that 350 fishermen and 49 boats have been seized by Sri Lankan authorities this year alone, the highest number in six years, and urged for immediate diplomatic intervention to secure their release and address the hefty fines imposed on them.
