The Income Tax Department has announced a seven-day extension for filing audit reports for the 2023-24 fiscal year, moving the deadline to October 7.

In a new circular, the department cited technological difficulties encountered by taxpayers in electronic filing as the reason for the extension from the original September 30 deadline.

Moore Singhi Executive Director Rajat Mohan commented that the technical issues overwhelming the system have necessitated the deadline extension. He suggested that the government either upgrade the technology to manage the increased load or stagger the deadlines to avoid last-minute chaos.
