Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday reported a notable 15.70% increase in trout production in Himachal Pradesh for the fiscal year 2023-24. This surge, according to Sukhu, is a direct outcome of the diligent efforts of local fishermen and the state's supportive policies.

In an official statement, the Chief Minister disclosed that the total trout production escalated from 1,170.50 metric tonnes in 2022-23 to 1,388 metric tonnes in 2023-24. Notably, in 2021-22, the production stood at 913.50 metric tonnes.

The state government is keen on bolstering the rural economy by assisting families involved in fisheries. Presently, 742 families are engaged in trout production, and the government is actively formulating policies to boost this sector. Additionally, with nine government and six private trout hatcheries, the state is well-equipped to continue fueling this growth. Alongside this, modern training techniques in trout farming are being imparted to ensure sustainable development in the sector.
