FTSE 100 Holds Steady Amid Gains in Miners and Losses in Luxury Stocks
The FTSE 100 remained largely unchanged on Tuesday, balancing gains in precious metal mining stocks with losses in luxury goods. Key points include a rise in gold prices, a drop in luxury retailer Burberry, and Mulberry rejecting Frasers' takeover bid. Investors await significant European inflation data.
The UK's FTSE 100 saw little movement on Tuesday as gains in precious metal miners counterbalanced losses in the luxury sector. Investors are eyeing critical European inflation figures for further market direction.
By 07:15 GMT, both the blue-chip FTSE 100 and midcap FTSE 250 index remained flat. Precious metal miners gained 0.5% with the uptick in gold prices, while the personal goods index fell 1.6%, driven by a 2% drop in Burberry shares after brokerages lowered their price target on the luxury retailer.
Luxury brand Mulberry declined by 3.2% after rejecting a $111 million takeover bid from sportswear retailer Frasers, citing lack of support from majority shareholder Challice. Additionally, Greggs reported slowed underlying sales growth, maintaining its full-year outlook, but its shares fell by 4.6%.
