After a six-day losing streak, the key equity indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded sharply on Tuesday. The rally was powered by gains in heavyweight stocks including HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and Mahindra & Mahindra.
The 30-share BSE Sensex increased by 584.81 points, or 0.72%, closing at 81,634.81, while the NSE Nifty rose by 217.40 points, or 0.88%, to settle at 25,013.15. Top gainers included Adani Ports, Mahindra & Mahindra, and HDFC Bank, among others.
Despite the strong performances, several stocks like Tata Steel and Bajaj Finserv were among the laggards. Meanwhile, European markets were trading lower, in line with US markets, which ended negatively on Monday. Asian markets showed mixed results, with Tokyo and Hong Kong closing lower while Shanghai saw gains. Global oil prices also fell, with Brent crude dipping by 1.84% to $79.44 a barrel.
