On Saturday, the Indian government announced its confidence in reaching a record foodgrain production in the 2024-25 rabi season, even as fertilizer shipments face delays caused by geopolitical tensions. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed the adequate availability of key fertilizers, ensuring supply for the season.

The agriculture ministry has set a target of 164.55 lakh tonnes for the season, including substantial amounts of wheat and pulses. With sowing activities underway, the pace is expected to accelerate post-Diwali.

Fertilizer routes have been adjusted, with DAP shipments now arriving via South Africa instead of the disrupted Red Sea paths, although this has extended delivery times. Meanwhile, initiatives promoting climate-resilient and bio-fortified seeds are emphasized to enhance productivity further.
