Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called for urgent diplomatic action following the apprehension of over a hundred fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, CM Stalin urged the Indian government to facilitate the release of 128 fishermen and 199 boats currently held by Sri Lanka.

Highlighting the ongoing plight of the fishermen's families, Stalin expressed that these incidents are severely affecting their livelihoods and leaving coastal communities in distress. He urged for immediate diplomatic measures to prevent further arrests and secure the fishermen's swift release.

This latest detainment includes 16 Indian fishermen from Rameshwaram, seized along with their boats. The Tamil Nadu government has consistently raised the issue of repeated fishermen arrests with Sri Lankan authorities, seeking a lasting solution through diplomatic discussions within the Joint Working Group.
